Why Dr. Frankenstein Is A Democrat

Why do Republicans represent 23 percent of the electorate but only 6 percent of scientists identify themselves as Republicans?

If you think it's because scientists typically don't drive pickup trucks with gun racks and Confederate flag stickers you're onto something.

If you think that Republicans don't share the views of most scientists you're getting warm -- as in global warming.

If you think that Republicans are afraid of change and scientists bath in it, you're getting warmer.

If you think that Republicans have increasingly become anti-intellectual, then take a bow, but get out of the way of that speeding pickup truck with a redneck behind the wheel.

The Republican Party has, of course, become increasing out of stride with the American mainstream as it shrinks into a racist, sexist, homophobic and xenophobic regional shadow of its former Big Tent self.

And as a recent Pew Research Center poll reveals, this is reflected in the paucity of Republicans who wear lab coats.

This is because those dudes typically are with Darwin on evolution, approve of stem-cell research, applaud volcano monitoring and find apocryphal the belief that any scientific opinion that does not agree with party or religious dogma should be suppressed.

Besides which, scared white men don't make good scientists.
